SALUTE TO LEGENDS OF EMERGENCY COMMISSIONED OFFICERS COURSE SER-1

Dear and Respected EC officers course serial one ,My salute,regards and congratulations to all of you on your commissioning day 30 June. It was on this day way back in 1963 all of you became part of Indian Army and served the nation in Uniform with elan and pride.

After release from Army, you joined Border Security Force. You laid foundation stone of Border Security Force with strong ethos of discipline,training, traditions and conventions which have survived the test of time and are still the cornerstone of BSF functioning and its operational and administrative success. All of you have been bedrock of BSF success story and are true  founding pillars of Border Security Force. I do not know  all names but will mention few whom I know   part of BSF veterans group.

My salute to Sh SS Kothiyal,IG(Retd). Sh BNChaturvedi ,my IG at Baramulla ,Sh UC Chhabra IG (Retd),Dr GP Bhatnagar ,IG (Retd).Sh SC Vyas DIG(Retd), Sh Sushil Sehgal, DIG(Retd). There may be many more whom I do not know and have never met them and know them. My special salute to my first Commandant in BSF Sh George Joseph Karmancheril in 108 Bn BSF.

My salutations to all of them for   grooming Border Security Force in its infancy and laying strong foundation stone which has ensured security and territorial integrity of our borders despite dynamic challenges being faced every day in border security domain.

Sirs what BSF is today is because of strong foundation laid by you. BSF have carried forward your ethos though over a period of time avoidable dilutions have taken place which affected all spheres of BSF functioning however force still stands strong because of your foundational pillars.

I thought of penning this piece to pay my regards to all EC officers especially those of EC-1 who celebrated their commissioning day on 30 June ,2024 since all of them made BSF through their blood and sweat but it is tody. Now it is the responsibility of those at helm to carry forward,the values ingrained by ECOs and make BSF truly an elite force and first line of defence

    An excellent article. Whatever values, culture, customs, regimentation etc. BSF is having, these are because of EC Officers.

    Absolutely amazing. Indeed EC 1 n followed ex army officers have made BSF what it is today. It’s maintained its mil ethos n culture very well . Great article R.C .

STORY OF MISSED GALLANTRY AWARD

Story dates back to 1988, about 38 years back. I was detected with severe jaundice at Partapur and evacuated to command hospital Chandigarh. I remained there for one moth as indoor patient was sent on sick leave  for 28 days. In the meanwhile my regiment had moved to Siachen base camp. I had very strong defenced to avoid Siachen tenure but as youngster and soldier who was with regiment ,it seemed  unsoldierly and unprofessional to ditch men with whom have served for better and more enjoyable part when they were going for toughest battle in the most inhospitable region. I decided that I must be with regiment in true soldierly spirit instead of avoiding most difficult assignment.
