SALUTE TO INDOMITABLE COURAGE AND BRAVERY OF HEAD CONSTABLE LAL FAM KIMA OF BORDER SECURITY FORCE

 

National security is sacred  prime duty  of Border Security Force. Border Security Force  stands  like rock in performance of this duty ,  while protecting sovereignty and territorial integrity of national borders and in internal security domain. Nation remembers the heroics of BSF as an organisation which  set the stage and prepared  base that  enabled India Army  to defeat Pakistan during Indo-Pakistan war of 1971.The bravery and heroics of BSF in 1971.It faced immediate onslaught   of  enemy with grit and determination    that then   Prime Minister Indira Gandhi designated BSF as first line of defence.

In 1999 there was infiltration by  Pak regulars in Ladakh along Line of control which led to Kargil conflict. Pakistan was badly mauled and defeated by Indian Army and  forced to beat hasty retreat after pitched battle. BSF  on Line of control did not allow any infiltration to take place in any of the areas held by it and stood like a rock in icy heights as is its habit to guard borders.

BSF, its officers and men have carried forward the legacy of its heroes of 1971 Indo-Pak war and Kargil conflict with unflinching loyalty and integrity. It has ensured that any one who tries to violate the Indian borders is dealt with sternly and adversaries do not dare to put an evil eye on Indian soil.

In order to ensure sovereignty and territorial integrity of national borders ,countless BSF officers and men have sacrificed their life and attained martyrdom for the safety and security of  mother land. We remember some and many who  have silently served the nation ,sacrificed their life at the altar of national security. 

One name which comes to mind who sacrificed his life for security of nation is HEAD CONSTABLE LAL FAM KIMA of 148 battalion BSF who sacrificed his life on intervening night of 07/08 November 2023 while fighting  on Indo-Pakistan border in Jammu area.He belonged to Mizoram.

Bravery and indomitable fighting spirit,  a trait of every  BSF man  was also in the mind and blood of HC LAL FAM KIMA. He was a fearless Border man. It was not his first act of bravery, he as a young constable through his grit and  alertness while fighting militants  killed a militant who despite being badly injured and almost dead was trying to remove the pin of  hand grenade to cause maximum casualties to BSF men. It was the ever alert KIMA who spotted the surreptitious movement of dying terrorist trying to blast the grenade. Had the terrorist been successful,certainly there would have been casualties.His act of bravery has been eulogised in "The Print" dated 09 Nov 2023 under caption " Tum Sala pin nikalega" : "BSF man killed at IB once saved dozens of his colleagues along LoC"

HC LAL FAM KIMA's twin acts of bravery need to be epitomised in BSF history and his bravery needs recognition. Hopefully and certainly  his indomitable fighting spirit and bravery will be remembered by BSF and nation. His martyrdom  brings hope for our safe tomorrow. 

BORDER SECURITY FORCE men of steel like LAL KAM FEMA and his ilk  bring hope that our tomorrow is safe in the hands of men  standing guard at national borders 365X24X7. Sacrifices of BSF men standing guard in the line of duty truly justifies the  motto " JIVAN PARYANT KARTAVAYA"

STORY OF MISSED GALLANTRY AWARD

Story dates back to 1988, about 38 years back. I was detected with severe jaundice at Partapur and evacuated to command hospital Chandigarh. I remained there for one moth as indoor patient was sent on sick leave  for 28 days. In the meanwhile my regiment had moved to Siachen base camp. I had very strong defenced to avoid Siachen tenure but as youngster and soldier who was with regiment ,it seemed  unsoldierly and unprofessional to ditch men with whom have served for better and more enjoyable part when they were going for toughest battle in the most inhospitable region. I decided that I must be with regiment in true soldierly spirit instead of avoiding most difficult assignment. INDIA MUST REASSESS PAKISTAN STRATGY

  Pulwama suicide  terror attack, claimed lives of 40 security personnel. India in retaliation launched Balakot strikes targeting terrorist infrastructure inside Pakistan hoping  that military action will deter Pakistan from sponsoring cross border terrorism.     Pakistan continued with strategizing and launching cross border terrorism under active patronage of Pakistan deep state. India was continuously urging Pakistan diplomatically and through international institutional mechanism of United Nations to stop cross border terrorism but with little success.
