FORGOTTEN WAR HERO BRIG MOHAMMAD USMAN MVC (POSTHOUMOUS)- A TRIBUTE

" FOR THOSE WHO RISK THEIR LIVES TO PROTECT OUR FREEDOM,IT IS A SELFLESS ACT OF VALOR THAT IS DONE WITHOUT ASKING ANY THING IN RETURN"

                                            So

" THE LEAST WE CAN DO FOR OUR MEN IN UNIFORM  IS TO HONOUR AND BE THANKFUL FOR THEIR SELFLESS DEEDS"

I happen to visit District MAU in the month of Dec 21/Jan 22. During my stay just broached with my brother about  local war heroes belonging to  erstwhile district Azamgarh and present Mau and Gazipur districts of eastern Uttar Pradesh. He mentioned about Brig Mohammad Usman MVC (posthumous) also nicknamed as Nowshera ka Sher or Lion of Nowshera and mentioned that his house is in village Bibipur under Ghosi subdivision of Distt-MAU. He also mentioned about Martyrs memorial of  CQMH Abdul Hamid at village Dhamupur  Distt-Gazipur (UP) also called as Abdul Hamid Dham.

I decided to visit  ancestral house of Brig Mohammad Usman MVC (Posthumous) of Dogra Regt in village -Bibipur which falls under Ghosi Tehsil of MAU district to pay my respects and tribute  to forgotten war hero. On 06 Jan started from Village- Kushmaur of Mau at about 1100 hrs. The Bibipur is  about 48 Kms from there. After about one and half hours journey reached village Bibipur and asked locals about his house who guided me to his house.

Brig Mohammad Usman was born on 15 July ,1912,in Bibipur in Mau district of present Uttar Pradesh. He passed out from  01 Feb 1934  from Sandhurst and his was the last course to pass out from Sandhurst. He was commissioned into 5th battalion of the 10th Baluch Regt (5/10Baluch). He has also served in Burma campaign and was mentioned in despatches as Major. After Baluch Regt was transferred to Pakistan he was transferred to Dogra Regt. In Jan/  Feb 1948 Brig Mohammad  Usman  repulsed fierce attacks on Nowshera and Jhangar both highly strategic locations. His defence earned him nickname of Line of Nowshera. During the defence of Jhangar, Brig Mohammad Usman was killed on 03 July 1948. His last words were " I am dying but let not the territory we were fighting for fall for the enemy" For his inspiring leadership and great courage he was awarded Maha Vir Chakra posthumously.

The ancestral house of Brig Mohammad Usman is spread in large area and is old Haveli now lying in dilapidated state. Paid my respects by standing in silence in memory of  great soldier and martyr and thereafter took round of complete house. Two/three families very poor families are staying in the compound which forms part of main haveli which is dilapidated and slowly falling apart. Spoke with one of the locals who said many people come here take photographs go back and thereafter nothing comes out as  nothing has been  done to convert  the house into  memorial to Brig Mohammad Usman

He  sacrificed his life for nation. Government of UP/Army may consider to  convert this house into memorial for the great soldier  and martyr for posterity to remember his heroics and service for national cause wherein he sacrificed his life for security and integrity  of nation.
